Upcycle an old clock to a Rasperry Pi-controlled Alarm Clock
Old clocks never die, they just get a new life with a Raspberry Pi - as demonstrated by Instructables member theredbryophyte. They have taken an old desktop clock and converted it to an Internet-connected interactive clock with many possibilities.
In the most basic form, LEDs installed in the hour positions tell the time with various level of brightness, and an LED strip around the circumference of the clock face is used as an alarm-notifier as shown below:
However thanks to the Raspberry Pi Zero W inside the clock, you could also use it as a more advanced notification system - letting you know interesting data via IFTTT, weather, and more.
To learn how to do it yourself, visit the clock's Instructable page.
And if you're interested in doing this yourself, PMD Way has a you covered with a wide range of parts, such as:
- Raspberry Pi Zero W kits
- A great range of LEDs
- jumper wires
- buttons
- prototyping PCBs
- and much more...
