Yes, your Raspberry Pi Zero is real!
Here at PMD Way we sell many Raspberry Pi Zero boards of all three types, as we don't have quantity restrictions. Many of our customers value time over purchase price.
Over time we have received several communications claiming that their new Pi Zero may be counterfeit, as they don't see an "Elpida" chip on the Pi Zero, as shown below:
The Pi Zeros we've been questioned about have a different memory chip, for example:
The chip you are used to seeing is the memory (RAM) chip, and it sits on top of the SoC (System on a Chip) which is the CPU and graphics chip all in one. For example in the image below you can see the memory chip sits over the SoC:
The memory chip is a generic part and can be sourced from many different suppliers. So some Zero boards may have an Elpida chip, a Micron chip, or perhaps others. It's nothing to worry about and doesn't affect your Pi Zero at all.
As always, if you're curious or concerned about your Pi from PMD Way or any other of our products, please contact us.
