Adding dirty USB C to a vintage MacBook Pro
Some older computers still have lot of life in them, especially Apple gear thanks to their excellent construction and specifications from the past (however ... the present time, maybe not).
An example of this has been demonstrated by Marcel Varallo, whose 2011 MacBook Pro served them very well, except for not having a USB-C socket. So what to do?
Hack in a socket! By some nifty hot-air work and tenacity, Marcel soldered in a USB-C breakout board which enabled data access to USB-C devices. Done.
You can learn more about this and some other interesting projects over at Marcel's website.
And if you're interested in doing this yourself, PMD Way has a compact USB C female breakout board and many other breakouts.
