If you need a fast way to make a user-input and output for your project, this TM1638 Numeric Display LED Input Board from PMD Way will fit the bill.
On the one board you have eight seven-segment LED displays, eight bicolor (red/green) LEDs AND five buttons for input. The whole thing is fully assembled - and you can daisy-chain up to five units at once for even more blinky goodness. You can also display basic text, for example:
