Now available are 40x1 Pin Female Header Strips in packs of 100 from PMD Way.
Whilst these header sockets do not feature ridges for cutting, they can still be cut to length if required. To do so, you will need to sacrifice one pin on the header. Its often easiest if you get a pair of pliers and remove one pin (or pair of pins) from the strip, then cut through the plastic housing with a study pair of wire cutters. Edges can be cleaned up with some precision cutters or a rotary tool with a fine disc.
Note that if these headers are placed end to end, the pin spacing will be increased at the join to 2.74mm. The housing can be trimmed with a sharp knife should this solution be required.
