INA228 20-Bit Current/Voltage Supervisor
The INA228 Breakout Board from PMD Way is an all-in-one current, voltage, and power sensing solution designed for ultimate flexibility and precision. Capable of handling up to 85VDC on either the high or low side, this board features a massive 20-bit ADC to accurately measure everything from microamps to amps. Thanks to its standard I2C interface, configuring alerts, oversampling, and gain settings is entirely effortless.
Key Capabilities & Specifications
Versatile Measurement: Monitors high- or low-side DC current and bus voltage, automatically calculating total power with better than 1% accuracy.
Dual-Range Precision: Featuring an onboard 15mΩ (0.1%) shunt resistor, it supports two measurement modes:
High-Current Mode: Up to 10A continuous with a 10µA resolution.
Low-Current Mode: Up to 2.75A continuous with a 2.5µA resolution.
Broad Compatibility: Operates on both 3V and 5V logic. It integrates seamlessly with Arduino, Circuit/microPython-compatible microcontrollers, and single-board computers like the Raspberry Pi.
Uses an I2C interface, and the board has the popular I2C bus connectors found on various distributors systems
Note: Designed exclusively for DC circuits; not compatible with AC voltages.
Overcoming Traditional Limitations
Standard current sensors often force a compromise. Low-side sensors can disrupt your ground reference, while alternative high-side sensors (like the INA219B) usually require swapping physical shunt resistors to change ranges. The INA228 eliminates these hurdles entirely, offering dynamic range and multi-side measurement on a single chip.
Wiring Configuration
Low-Side Sensing: Connect VIN- to ground and VIN+ to the lowest potential of your load. VBUS should tie to your main project voltage (up to 85V).
High-Side Sensing (Standard): Connect both VIN+ and VBUS to your main project voltage, and VIN- to the highest potential of your load. You can easily bridge the onboard rear jumper to simplify this connection.
What’s Included: A fully assembled breakout board, a 3.5mm terminal block, and standard header pins (requires basic soldering for breadboard use).
